Still blooming....for now

I've really gotten in to taking close up pictures with the super macro setting on our camera lately. I love how part of the object is in focus and the background is blurred. I keep looking for more blooms everywhere and this is a hibiscus bloom I shot yesterday in our backyard. It's amazing how intricate and detailed flowers can be, and most of us don't really pay too much attention. I have noticed that the kids at school always notice more details....for example, one little girl said she could tell these two twin boys apart because one of them had darker freckles! I need to try to be more like that sometimes!

It may be a little while before the leaves really start turning colors, but we seem to be hanging on to our mild summer weather and the plants and flowers are happy. This morning we took a walk before church and it really felt like a brisk fall morning....finally! I guess I have to start planning for when the temperatures dip low enough to bring the plants inside. Where am I going to put them all!!??!!

Austin Weekend Trip September 2008

ECU Band Debut for Fall 2008

ECU won today!

After a rocky start, ECU's football team won in overtime at today's game 51 to 49. It was a winning day for Texas, too as they beat Arkansas 52-10. Needless to say, Ben was pretty happy today!

The following slideshow has pictures of the ECU band from the first home game (I didn't attend today...too much work to do!)

A lot has been happening lately...a little of everything! We're trying get caught back up on laundry and cleaning the house this weekend since we were gone to Austin last weekend. It was so great to see everyone and I was able to reconnect with a few old teaching buddies I hadn't talked with in awhile. Since last weekend, we've been a little behind, so I'm taking this opportunity to catch up on...on everything! Here are a few pictures from the last few weeks...

Ben and I were involved in a Patriots' Day celebration where the Silent Drill Platoon from Washington, D.C. came to perform a rifle routine. They were really amazing! (This is the same group that is featured at the beginning of A Few Good Men....but Ben and I were only with A Couple Good Men.) Sorry, I couldn't help myself!

And this is what it looks like when a McDonald's is being demolished. Now this area is completely flat and the newly remodeled McDonald's should be ready in December (not that we eat at McDonald's since we watched Supersize Me, but it's still cool to see buildings being torn down.)

How some kids react to instructions at school...

Seriously, school is going great and we can't believe it's already mid-September. Our calendar stays busy and we enjoy time at home only rarely now (and it's usually when we're really tired!) But that's what Sunday afternoons are for, right?
